This is a full-time position with a full benefit package, including paid holidays, vacation, sick pay, shift differential, PERS, medical, dental and vision. Represented by IUOE Local 701.

This position will be filled at the Facility Operating Engineer II and/or Apprentice level depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications. OCC is an Authorized Training Agent through the Portland Community College’s Trades & Industry Department and if hired as an apprentice, employee will be required to enter the program. Metro will reimburse employee for tuition and associated fees upon proof of successful completion of each course.

Facility Operating Engineer II entry rate: $34.04; after 6 months: $35.66/hour
Apprentice Operating Engineer entry rate: $29.25; after 6 months: $30.64/hour

Requirements:

Facility Operating Engineer II:
•High School diploma or GED; minimum of two years’ experience as an operating engineer in a large public events facility; or any combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. Experience must include work-related tasks in plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling.
•Limited Maintenance Electrical License
•Possess of or the ability to obtain an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification, Brazing Certification, Backflow Assembly Tester Certification and CPR Certification
•A valid state driver’s license
•Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. All standard schedules include at least one Saturday or Sunday. Shifts are bid twice annually based on seniority within the union.

Apprentice Operating Engineer:•High School diploma or GED, a degree from a technical or trade school and one year of experience in a position that demonstrates mechanical aptitude; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the job.
•A valid state driver’s license
•Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. All standard schedules include at least one Saturday or Sunday. Shifts are bid twice annually based on seniority within the union.
•Must be currently enrolled in the apprenticeship program or be willing to enter the program upon hire.
